The chakras in the human body are related to specific energies and consciousness, to endocrine glands, colors, and psychic features. The chakras stem from your spinal column and emit energy through your body and connect outside of your body into what is known as the “Auric Feild”.

There are 7 main chakras and a couple of others that are associated with the palms of each hand, the soles of each foot, and the top of your head.

Explaining the 7 chakras

The 7 main chakras have their own individual principles and are all interconnected. Starting from the root chakra at the bottom of your spine, the bottom three are also called “Physical Chakras”, keeping us grounded as human beings. Whereas, the top three chakras are also contemplated as “SPiritual Chakras”, connecting us to our higher selves. Lastly leaving us with the mid chakra where both, the spiritual and physical chakras meet, Heart Chakra.

Now lets have a look at 7 chakras and their meanings

Root Chakra

Chakras point: Base of Spine, between genitals.

Chakra Color: Red

Chakra Crystals: Ruby, garnet, smoky quartz, fire agate

The Root chakra is broadly responsible for having a sense of safety and security in your life. When this chakra is aligned, you will feel connected to nature and feel grounded towards life.

Root chakra teaches us to feel safe and secure, to manifest basic human needs such as food and shelter, and manage a healthy physical life.

Sacral Plexus Chakra

Chakra point: Below belly button

Chakra color: Orange

Chakra crystals: Amber, moonstone, orange tourmaline.

The Sacral chakra is broadly connected to your emotions, creativity, and sexual activities. When Sacral chakra is aligned, you will feel an immense flow of creative energy, able to express your feelings.

This chakra teaches us to connect with others emotionally and express our sexuality in a healthy way. You would also have a healthy relationship with money, and attract more in healthy ways.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Chakra point: 2 inches above naval

Chakra Color: Yellow

Chakra crystals: Yellow citrine, amber, yellow agate.

The solar chakra also called power chakra is related to our personality and self-esteem. It makes us feel complete and content with who we are. We develop self-worth and get in touch with our inner selves through this chakra.

It helps us to self empower and live our purpose

Heart chakra

Chakra point: Middle of the chest.

Chakra Color: Green

Chakra crystals: Rose quartz, emerald, green tourmaline.

Heart chakra connects your physical chakras with spiritual chakras. It helps us to connect with our higher self, and manifest joy, love, and happiness.

You would feel truly connected to yourself and have compassion towards yourself and the ones who surround you.

Throat chakra

Chakra point: Front bottom of the neck.

Chakra Color: Light blue

Chakra crystals: aquamarine and Turquoise

Throat chakra helps us speak what we believe is the truth. You will be able to express what you exactly mean and have a balance between speaking and silence.

Third Eye Chakra

Chakra point: Between Eyebrows

Chakra Color: Indigo

Chakra crystals: Star sapphire, amethyst, tanzanite

Third eye chakra guides us with our intuition and insight. You receive your wisdom and act upon your intuition. You will be able to see beyond the physical plane and build your sixth sense.

Crown Chakra

Chakra point: Center of head

Chakra Color: Purple, white and gold.

Chakra crystals: Clear quartz, white topaz, moonstone

You would be able to understand the divine meaning of life. Furthermore, crown chakra will allow you to connect with your higher self and realize that there is more to you than just your physical body.

How to Unblock Chakras

Root Chakra

Symptoms of Blocked Root chakra:

  • Chronic lower back pain
  • Constipation
  • Weight problems
  • Knee problems
  • Depression
  • You do not feel secured
  • You cannot stand up for yourself
  • You feel disconnected from nature.

Unblock Root chakra: To do so you can either practice meditation or try some yoga poses. Yoga poses that strengthen stability and legs giving the ability to the ground are recommended. You can perform the Chair pose, Tree Pose, and also try Forward bend and Head knee pose.

Furthermore, you should spend more time outside in nature, eat root vegetables, walk barefoot on the grass, at the beach on the sand.

Symptoms of Blocked Sacral Chakra:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Kidney problems
  • Creativity blocks
  • Sex issues
  • Reproductive issues
  • May have relationship issues

Unblock Sacral Chakra: Yoga poses that improve your creativity, breathing and also target core muscles would help to unblock sacral chakra.

Perform the Child’s Pose, Downward facing dog, and also poses that will open up your hips such as the Cow face pose and Open Angel pose.

Try and belly dance or salsa to get the hip movements. Have fun with Hula Hoop or follow any other creative activities such as painting, writing, and pottery.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Unblock Solar Plexus Chakra: Chakra yoga involves a lot of energy moves and spine flexibility to help you gain power and confidence. Try poses such as Boat pose, cat pose, leg lifts.

You can also do martial arts or learn other self-defense to strengthen your inner power. Build confidence by trying new things that are out of your comfort zones.

Unblock Heart Chakra: Yoga moves for opening up your chest area will allow you to align this chakra. For instance, camel pose, Eagle Pose, Seated Spinal Twist.

Herbs for chakras can also work wonders, so try a Rosebud tea. Forgive yourself or practice doing so.

Symptoms of blocked Throat Chakra

  • Sore throat
  • Gum problems
  • thyroid problems
  • Addiction
  • Difficulty in making decisions
  • Feel judged.
  • Criticizing
  • Struggling to express what you think
  • Can’t find the words the express
  • Can’t find the will to live

Unblock Throat Chakra: Yoga moves that promote neck flexibility will unblock this chakra. Try doing some Bridge pose, Triangle pose, and Plow pose.

Teas such as peppermint, and spearmint will open your throat chakra and help you speak your truth. Practice reading aloud and sing to yourself.

Unlock Third Eye chakra: Anything that will help us build intuition and see beyond the physical form and sense various perspectives will strengthen third eye chakra.

Poses that require your upper body to be in close proximity to your lower body. For instance, a Forward bend will help you in connecting to the root parts of the body that is legs.

Wear indigo clothing more often, and eat foods like blueberries and eggplants.

Unblock Crown chakra: Yoga poses that will increase blow flow to your head such as a headstand and Corpse pose.

By doing so you will be able to connect to the divine. Practicing meditation will also aid Crown Chakra.

When we interact with the energies inside our chakras, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and learn to heal ourselves on all levels, resulting in true holistic healing.

  • Keep a White sage bundle at home: Burning the sage and spreading its smoke all over the house clarifies the space.
  • Use Candles: Candles can be great for self-care and make any space cozier. Burn candles while meditating and connecting your inner self.
  • Place a Buddha statue: Buddha brings in a lot of positive energy in the space. Make sure to keep it in a room that gets sunlight.
  • Crystals: Crystals not only look pretty as decor but can also help you cleanse your mind.
  • Indoor plants: Bringing in real plants will help you connect to nature and keep you grounded. Plants also make a great room decor and make the place look full of life.
